MAY we begin…

Can you believe it is nearly the end of May, and the season only just seems to be getting going…!!!

May Update… with a lot of excitement and positive vibes…

Fiona has, along with most of the Eventing Nation, had a very frustrating start to the 2018 season… as we are approaching June, Fiona has, thus far, only managed to get out to 4 events! So far we have had nothing but double clears, and a few decent placings, so Fiona is very excited to be getting going properly!!

We’ll get the negatives out of the way… The main downer to 2018 has been that Fiona’s top horse Smokie has had a small procedure, and will be starting walk work next month… but the 2018 season is out for him… and the retirement of the other 3* horse Tornebank Valentino, owned by Mrs Jill Mellink- an old injury, reopened in the field end of last season, and seems sadly, to be a career ending outcome… but positive vibes and best foot forward, and all that…

The newest horse to join ‘The Team’ is Kannanball Run’, by the World Famous Kannan (World Top 10 Stallion for 8 consecutive years so far) with Frank and Jane Herrick each buying a leg of him to be part of the fun… and he didn’t disappoint, at his first 100 outing with a 26 double clear- good enough for a win!!

Another great outing with the Luidam youngster Fiona has had for 18 months, Lordy, but slowly slowly catchy monkey with this one as he is such a big lanky lad! He did a very steady 30 double clear, and is going to be such an exciting one for the future… Fi now has to make the dreadful decision whether to sell him to fund the pathway with the rest, or try to form another syndicate to keep producing him!

Mac has had two outings, owned by Mrs Eleanor Cursham, and double clear and placed in each, and has now got entries in place for Intermediates prepping him for 2* runs later in the season.

Cappie, aka Superman, has been out for a party, and feels incredible- this one is half owned between Mr & Mrs Abel Smith and Fiona; one Fi was thrilled to have found owners for, as he hopefully has a very bright future!! He stepped up to Novice last year, and hopefully Intermediate and 2* will be the goal this year.

Pete, the little ginger pocket rocket, will be starting out with a few nice little runs to get the eye in, and fingers crossed this will be the season to step him up to a 3* following a few more Advanced runs!!

Foxy is ready and raring, and will step out with a few nice runs like Pete, and hopefully this will be a consolidating year at Intermediate and 2*.

Fi has entered up a few events for June, incorporating new and exciting 5 yr old lads: Rhua, by jumping stallion Radolin, already entered in age classes… and Zak, a beautiful grey French gelding, with very successful jumping lines in both of his parents… both brave as Lions! These are both potentially nice enough to keep… but one will have to go to pay for the way with the other…

Well, though an update was well passed due, sitting here writing about it won’t get the horses worked… so I’d better get back to it!!! Bishop Burton tomorrow, with a silly o’clock start… ?? Cottesmore Pony Club Hunter Trial on Monday, aaaand Shelford on Tuesday… Rock and Roll… I promise it won’t be quite so long til my next update!!!

    Yard Manager/ Competition Groom

Jess joined the team as a trainee back in 2020! Apart from a very short stint spreading her wings, she quickly decided that we really were the family she wanted to be a part of!! I hope Jess will be my Jackie Potts, as she treats the whole team as her own family, and keeps the cogs turning smoothly- even during our tough times!!
